After-Care

  1. Remove the bandage after 48 hours unless instructed otherwise. Times for leaving your bandage on differ from client to tattoo. Please listen to your artist on how long you should leave your bandage on specifically.

  2. Once you’ve removed the bandage, gently wash your tattoo with a fragrance-free soap to remove any dried residue or plasma. Repeat once daily until the tattoo is fully healed.

  3. Gently pat your tattoo dry with a clean, dry cloth. DO NOT RUB OR TOUCH your tattoo or allow others to touch it. It is an open wound and could be prone to infection.

  4. After washing and drying your tattoo, you will want to apply a fragrance-free lotion 1-2 times daily. (Lubriderm, Recovery, Mad Rabbit, etc.)

  5. Keep your tattoo clean during the healing process. AVOID Hot tubs, swimming pools, lakes, or any body of water that will submerge your tattoo in water for an extended period while healing. SHOWERS ONLY

  6. In addition, don’t tan or overexpose your tattoo to sunlight. Use sunscreen only AFTER your tattoo is healed! Protection from the sun will prolong the intensity of your tattoo over time.

  7. Please don't hesitate to contact me if there is an infection or any other problem or concern regarding your tattoo. In extreme cases, contact your physician.

Tips + Tricks

  • Wash your hands before you start your aftercare routine. This helps avoid any cross-contamination from our everyday lives.

  • If a barrier bandage was used (Saniderm, Derm-shield, etc., usually sticks to the skin, sometimes clear or black) when removing the bandage, DON’T rip it off in one go. It can traumatize the skin further and irritate it. Gently tug at one corner of the bandage and pull parallel with the skin a little bit at a time.

  • Some people find it easier to take the bandages off in the shower. If this is the case for you, use warm water and go slow! (not too hot, not too cold)

  • Ensure your bedding is clean if your tattoo can’t be covered with loose clothing. The first night without the bandages can get a little sticky.
